Dear Church,A perennial question in the Christian church through all of history has been: are we saved by grace through faith alone, or is grace through faith plus works? Faith or works? Faith plus works? Just faith? Just works? Some mystical mixture?
The text of our study this week is Acts 15:1-21, which discusses the early church's grapple with grace. They just can't seem to make sense of the shocking and staggering grace of God. Many cried out incredulously, "What do you mean all we do to be saved is believe in the the finished work of Christ?!?"
Sola Gratia, or Grace Alone is the "empty hand of faith," which illustrates the fact that we do absolutely nothing to save ourselves. We can add nothing to our salvation. We are his children because he has adopted us. We believe in God because he has given us the ability to believe in him. We love Him because he has first loved us. We are saved by grace alone. What a glorious truth!
Praying for you, Pastor Jan
