If the T is running, so are we

Dear Mosaic Boston Family,

As you have probably heard, we're in for some snow (finally! My daughter Elizabeth misses snow so much, she has asked to go sledding on grass). Our policy at Mosaic Boston Brookline is: if the MBTA is running, we are too (you can check for updates here). However, Mosaic Boston Jamaica Plain has cancelled their worship service, since their meeting space is closed due to the imminent snowfall.

If we are meeting tomorrow, along with worshiping our great God together, and gathering with His saints, we'll open the Holy Scriptures to meditate on the Spiritual Rhythm of Community. When Scripture talks about community, it doesn't talk about a social club of peers or a Meetup interest group. Godly community is Gospel-centered community on Mission with God, for His glory! The early church committed (devoted) itself to gathering together corporately, and in small groups in homes for studying the Scriptures, prayer, and fellowship.

Why does community take devotion? You don't have to devote yourself to something that comes natural (like eating). True community is hard. Relationships are messy. People are sinners. So are we. When sinners come into close proximity with sinners for extended periods of time, we sin against each other. Hurt people hurt people. But the early church devoted themselves to spiritual community with other believers, and God used those relationship redemptively, and transformed the early church into a missionary force for the Kingdom of God and His glory, which transformed the world.

I'm praying the Holy Spirit does the same in and through Mosaic Boston.

Praying for you,
Pastor Jan
