Knowing & Loving God. Knowing & Loving People.

Dear Mosaic Family,

No matter how long you've lived in Boston, real-estate thoughts dominate our lives.
How much?! For this?! But there's no central air! Where's the washer/dryer? At the laundromat two blocks away?! When was the last time the unit was painted? 1968? Where's the parking spot? On Comm. ave, two miles away? Wut?!

As important as it is to find appropriate housing for your life, the most important piece of real-estate, in the totality of your life, is the 18 inches between your mind and your heart.

Many are drawn to Christianity because it offers intellectual stimulation. However, God's Truth never seems to travel down to the heart. Others are drawn to Christianity because it offers emotional satisfaction. However, God's love never seems to travel up to the mind. God cares about both facts and feelings, truth and love. God calls us to know Him truly, and love Him wholeheartedly. In turn, He also calls us to know people truly, and love them wholeheartedly.

In 1 Corinthians 8:3, Holy Scripture says "if anyone loves God, he is known by God." At first glance, it appears this is just basic teaching, along the lines of: "Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so." However, once you dig deeper, you realize this is a radical paradigm shift. St. Paul isn't saying: if anyone loves God, he knows God (though true). What he's saying is: if you love God, you only love Him because He first loved you. God knows us in such a way, that we can't but love Him. His knowledge of us generates love in our hearts for Him. In turn, God calls us to know people in such a way, they can't but love us.

If you grasp this principle, with both mind and heart, it will transform every single relationship in your life. Join us tomorrow as we continue our "Prodigal Church" series by looking at 1 Corinthians 8, and 1 Corinthians 10:23-33.

With Love,
Pastor Jan
