Only one service tomorrow, 9:30am

Dear Mosaic Family,

Since Temple Ohabei Shalom is celebrating Rosh Hashanah tomorrow afternoon, we'll only be holding one service, at 9:30am.

I'm super excited for this opportunity! As a church family, we haven't worshiped in one service since 2012. Don't miss out on this unique and historic experience. I'm praying for the Holy Spirit to move powerfully and for our hearts to be encouraged by God and ignited to be used by Him.

We'll be continuing our series, "Tough and Tender" by meditating on the power of words to shape our minds and hearts. We live in a society that breeds soft minds and hard hearts. We've jettisoned truth and in turn, lost love. Might there be a connection between truth and love? When I worked for the government, one of my training courses was called "Winning the Battle for Hearts and Minds." How was the battle waged? With words.

Heidegger defines language as "the house of being." Words house concepts and concepts shape reality. In George Orwell's novel 1984, the most powerful weapon of the totalitarian state is the new dictionary, a revised language. Get rid of the word "liberty" and you wipe out the concept. Once the concept dies, the reality dies. An attack on reality comes through an attack on language.

Why are words as powerful as they are? What is it about a turn of a phrase that can make us laugh or cry? Why can some words start families and other words spark wars? Words have the power to create life and inflict death.

Words are immaterial, yet contain the power to create and shape material reality. Perhaps this begins to scratch the surface of why Jesus is the Word.

Join us tomorrow as we look at Ephesians 4:11-16, where we are told to "speak the truth in love" which is how we develop tough minds and tender hearts.

With love,
Pastor Jan
