Advent: Love (& Fury)
Dear Mosaic Family,What's the most famous Bible verse? Thanks to Billy Graham and Tim Tebow, I think it's John 3:16, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life." I love this Bible verse. I think it's one of the simplest and most concentrated articulations of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. However, to understand the depth of this verse, as well as the depth of God's love, we must read this verse in context.
Two verses later, in John 3:18, Jesus says, "Whoever believes in him (Jesus) is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God." To many of us, this seems like a jarring juxtaposition. How can Jesus talk about God's love and God's condemnation, seemingly in the same breath? How can God be both a God of Love and Fury?

Update on Advent Service Times: Mosaic has grown quite a bit over the last few months. During November we’ve seen an average of 300 people every week coming to worship, serve, and hear the Good News about Jesus Christ! Due to the high number of students at Mosaic who leave the city over winter break, our attendance often drops quite a bit around Christmas. We will be assessing our service needs from week-to-week, to see if we need to drop down to one morning service. In the meantime we’ll continue all of our services at their normal times.
