"Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do." -- Jesus

Dear Mosaic Family,

What's the biggest, boldest, most audacious prayer request you've ever brought before God? Perhaps you prayed for a spouse, or the healing of a loved one. Perhaps you prayed for a job, or a housing situation. Perhaps you prayed to win the lottery. Whatever it is, we've all probably come to God with some big requests, at some point.

One of the most perplexing passages in Scripture is found in John 14:13-14, where Jesus, addressing his disciples, says, "Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it." This is a colossal promise!! Whatever?!?! Most of us gravitate toward that word immediately, and it's important, but of course, it must be understood in context. Twice Jesus repeats the phrase, "in my name"... whatever you ask in my name. Many reduce this to just meaning we come to God with our wishlist, and then tack on "in Jesus name" at the end. However, Jesus isn't referring to this at all, and he adds the fullness of meaning to this statement when he adds, "that the Father may be glorified in the Son." Whatever we ask for God's glory, for his renown, for his honor, this Jesus will accomplish!

So, let me rephrase the original question: what is the biggest, boldest, most audacious prayer request you've ever brought before God, regarding His glory?

This is exactly what we'll be talking about tomorrow as we look at the second chapter of Nehemiah. Nehemiah asks God for one of the wildest prayer requests recorded in Scripture, and what's crazier, God answers him! Join us in Brookline at one of our three worship services as we consider increasing the audacity of our prayers.

One of Mosaic Boston's biggest, boldest, most audacious prayer requests is for God to spark a church planting multiplying movement, through us, for His glory! We're beginning to see God answer this request already! Tomorrow, Pastor Ivey Rhodes, his beautiful and blessed family, and a phenomenal core group, will be launching Mosaic Boston Jamaica Plain. All the info can be found here, by clicking on the JP Parish site. We would love to have you join them, to support them, and celebrate with them, at their first official worship service.

Praying for you,
Pastor Jan
