Newsletter: The Insanity of Killing God

Dear Mosaic Family,

As we meditate upon Holy Week, the most important week in History, we are given a front row seat to what happened when God became one of us.

There was a popular song a few years ago, “What if God was one of us?”

Well, He was. And we killed him. Just imagine the insanity of doing this. It's insane because it's impossible. We can't kill God. He's eternal.

In Mark 12, Jesus tells a parable of a father, who builds a vineyard and leases it to tenants. However, every time he sends messengers to collect rent, the tenants beat and/or kill the messengers. The tenants had decided they were the owners (today it's known as squatting). In Mark 12:6, it says "He had still one other, a beloved son. Finally he sent him to them, saying, 'They will respect my son.'"

Of course, the tenants did not respect the son. They took him and killed him and threw him out of the vineyard.

What was their end goal? Freedom from the father. They didn't want to give the father his due. They didn't want someone in position of authority over them. Such rebellion against God is, of course, suicidal, because God always wins.

As Jesus exposes our innate suicidal enmity toward God, He graciously offers to save us from ourselves. He allows His-destruction to save us from our self-destruction, thereby providing the only means for our enmity toward God to be replaced with loving obedience.

Join us Sunday as meditate upon. Mark 12:1-17.

Looking forward to worshiping with you!
