Jesus among the Hedonists

Dear Mosaic Boston Family,

So, Mega Millions is up to $1.6 Billion. Did you notice? Did you play? Have you daydreamed about what you could do with that kind of money? (I hope you plan to tithe, even in your daydreams)

What would your life look like if you had unlimited resources? I'm talking about virtually infinite wealth. What would you spend your money on? What would you spend your time doing? Who would your friends be? What would your relationships look like? Where would you live? What would you be pursuing? What would you live for?

Since our culture has rejected even the idea of ultimate meaning in life, and there is no true point to life, the only point that is left is to have a good time. The point of life becomes the pursuit of personal happiness. Since we have no idea what leads to ultimate happiness, we conflate happiness with pleasure. The pursuit of happiness becomes the pursuit of maximum pleasure, which paradoxically leads to maximum pain.

Join us tomorrow as look at Jesus among the Hedonists. We'll look at Ecclesiastes 2, where we see what happens when a person with unlimited resources throws himself with reckless abandon into hedonism, as he tests his heart with pleasure. Could pleasure be the purpose of life? Join us tomorrow to find out.

Praying for you,
Pastor Jan
